Good location. The Hotel Armstrong is close to metro station, also two mini-supermarkets are close to hotel, it helps us to trim the travelling budget on food. Good environment: The hotel is quiet & comfortable, it is not far from the famous Pere Lachaise cemetery. My wife and I stayed at the Armstrong for 7 nights in late March 2009. We made reservations through the hotel’s own website. A few days before traveling we confirmed the reservation by e-mail - just in case. But everything was OK. We arrived from CDG by taxi which took 35 minutes. The two things we liked most about the property was its outstanding value and location. For 65 EUR a night in March, we got a nice room which was reasonably equipped. Hotel staff was all friendly and some went out of their way to help us. The free wireless is very helpful - later in the trip we stayed in a four-start hotel in Barcelona that charged 6 EUR an hour for the same service. The best thing, however, is its location. When making the reservation, it was our second choice, after an Ibis at the Opera which was considerably more expensive. Looking back, I would not trade the Porte de Montreuil location for the Opera, price notwithstanding. That area is not touristy at all and the local people are helpful and friendly, very different from the tourist infested areas. Walking just a short block down Boulevard Davout, we have a metro station. Across the street from the station is an outstanding boulangerie (fresh croissants every morning!) and across rue de la Croix Saint Simon there is a very convenient mini market.
After staying in that region (which includes the Bastille and Place de La Nation) I would not consider staying again around the more central areas.
